In late Dec. of 2013 Jamie asked me if I would like to be a “treat person” so in Jan of 2014 I began taking treats to the building site in Chimacum.

For quite some time I was the Wednesday treat person.  I usually provided a plate of home made cookies (such as Snickerdoodles, Oatmeal or Chocolate Chip) a plate of home made bread (such as Banana, Zucchini, or Pumpkin) and then some kind of fruit in season.  Volunteers would always tell me how much they enjoyed them and that there were usually no leftovers. My husband loved that we always had goodies around to eat as well.

I look forward to the end of the pandemic so I can get back to baking treats and checking the progress on each house.

One of my favorite recipes to make is a variation of my mother’s chocolate chip recipe.

Mix together:

1 cup shortening (I use regular Crisco)

2 eggs

3/4 cup regular sugar

3/4 cup brown sugar

1 tsp vanilla

Add and mix to above:

2 1/4 cup flour

1 tsp salt

1 tsp baking soda

Add and mix in:

1 cup chocolate chips

1 cup flaked coconut

1 cup regular oatmeal

Drop by spoonfuls onto lightly greased cookie sheet.

Bake for about 10 min. in 375  oven ’til golden brown
