Partnership Housing

Habitat for Humanity partners with people who need a decent, affordable place to live.  We provide families with a hand up, not a handout.

Our partners can be a single person, one adult with children or two adults with or without children. The size of house built will be determined by the size and make-up of the family. Although Habitat is not a custom builder, homeowners are able to choose flooring, paint colors, and a personalization option. Homeowners also work with a Master Gardener to create a landscape design and types of plants in their landscape design.

Each partner family is required to invest 250 to 400 sweat equity hours over the course of partnership – this typically amounts to one day per week for each adult in the household. In addition to helping build their own home, families work on their neighbors’ homes, in the Habitat Stores, at special events, and at the office. They also participate in homeowner education classes to prepare for successful homeownership.

Once families are selected, they are supported by our Homeowner Services staff and volunteers who help them navigate the path to homeownership.  Habitat provides homeownership classes as a way to mentor and serve our families throughout the building process.
