Donor Spotlight

Habitat for Humanity donors like Todd Hutton are the key to our success. A transplant from Oregon, Todd discovered the charming town of Port Townsend and completed his own home in 2005. After deciding to make East Jefferson County his full-time home in 2016, Todd began volunteering at Habitat EJC construction sites and was soon recruited to the Truck Guys team, where he joined other volunteers in carrying out pickups of items like sofa beds for five years.

During his first year with Habitat EJC, Todd had a humorous encounter during a pickup in Port Ludlow with a woman in her mid-80s, who suggested that the organization should recruit younger volunteers. Todd playfully chimed in, proudly claiming to be the youngest at 70.

Todd takes immense pride in being a member of the remarkable Truck Guys team, which has comprised of volunteers from backgrounds spanning aerospace, medicine, and education over the years. While Todd is the sole remaining truck volunteer due to the challenges of the pandemic, sponsoring a new home on Landes, alongside two sponsorship partners, under The Truck Guys banner brings him immeasurable pleasure. The trio is especially pleased to be paying tribute to all the truck volunteers who have selflessly dedicated their time over the years. Beyond volunteer and sponsorship work, Todd is also a member of Habitat EJC’s board, which has only amplified his dedication to the cause.

Reflecting on his experience, Todd highlights attending home dedications as the most impactful aspect of his involvement. Witnessing dreams come true for individuals and families fills him with a deep sense of fulfillment. In his eyes, these houses represent far more than mere dwellings. They embody stability, opportunities, and hope.

Construction Progress Report

Landes North Homes are nearing completion! We will be painting, cleaning up and landscaping to bring our efforts to an end and provide the beginnings for new families there. And woodwork continues on Cliff Street this month with the completion of siding, and exterior painting, but we may split time between that location and a new site on Eddy Street where we hope to begin framing soon.

The Habitat Construction Team continues to seek volunteers.
Your Time & Talent Increases Impact! If you are a skilled individual who can dedicate some of your time to volunteer with Habitat, it multiplies the impact of everything we do. Habitat’s Competent Persons Plus designation is given to volunteers who complete a level of safety and first aid training, want to work with other volunteers, and possess a level of construction skills consistent with Habitat’s building standards. As a Competent Person Plus, you will be asked to assist in the completion of important scopes of work, lead small groups of volunteers in efforts, and be a part of building community in this important way. Please reach out to us here if you would like to learn more about this opportunity.

The Habitat Happiness Effect

5 Benefits of Volunteering Making new friends and improving your well-being are just two of the volunteer benefits you’ll experience when working with Habitat for Humanity.

  1. Connect With Others: Unleash the joy of meeting new people and strengthen your ties to the community. Volunteer with us and expand your support network, connecting with like-minded individuals who share common interests, neighborhood resources, and exciting activities.
  2. Boost Your Well-Being: Nurture your mind and body through the act of giving. Volunteering acts as a powerful antidote to stress, anxiety, and depression. Stay active, enhance your self-confidence, and experience the positive effects of regular social interactions.
  3. Propel Your Career: Seize the opportunity to advance your professional journey. As a volunteer, you’ll develop essential leadership skills and traits, such as communication and management, that can boost your career prospects and open new doors of opportunity.
  4. Find Fulfillment and Fun: Break free from the ordinary and infuse your life with excitement and fulfillment. Engaging in meaningful volunteer work offers an energizing escape from the everyday routine. Embrace the renewal of creativity and motivation that spills over into both your personal and professional endeavors.
  5. Strengthen Communities: Be a catalyst for positive change. By volunteering, you naturally foster social networks that uplift low-income and under-resourced areas within your community. Your efforts create a ripple effect, inspiring others to lend a helping hand to their neighbors.
