Happy New Year!

January 18: Mason Street Community Meeting

Community Bests Holiday Giving Challenge, New Store Hours & Homeowners Make History!

Mason Street Meeting

Draft Site Plan to be Presented

On Thursday, January 18, we will hold our second Community Meeting at the Jefferson County Library. We hope you will join us for this interactive session as we seek the community’s input on the draft site plan for this new neighborhood. If you are unable to attend, please email info@habitatejc.org for Zoom meeting details.

This meeting follows our first community outreach effort held on December 12, 2023, where we delivered an update from our planning team and listened to valuable community input for these plans.

Our planning team includes two acclaimed firms for project management and architectural design to help lead the effort in designing and planning a permanently affordable, mixed single and multi-family community in Port Hadlock, WA.

Habitat will draw upon the vast experience of both Cap Ex Advisory Group of Baltimore, MD and Seattle, WA architectural firm, Schemata Workshop, to help in the development of an implementable and financially workable master plan for this envisioned neighborhood.

Schemata Workshop leads the design and planning of the community; Cap Ex Advisory develops the financial and supporting work. At the direction of Habitat, both firms work closely as part of the team to bring this vision to reality.

Please view the Dec 12, 2023 Community Meeting on YouTube, learn more about this new neighborhood on our new Mason Street page and join us for the second Mason Street Community Meeting on Thursday, January 18, at 5 pm at the Jefferson County Library.

Community Giving Challenge

Thank you for your generosity!

YOU are AMAZING: During our 2023 year-end appeal, you invested almost $153,000 in affordable homeownership through Habitat!

On behalf of the staff, board, and partners working toward homeownership and critical home repairs, thank you for your amazing support! Your contributions received or postmarked by December 31, 2023, totaled more than $152,948! Your donations will work alongside our partner families to build their homes and make much-needed repairs for homeowners in the South County.

Your contributions of time, talent, and treasure are what make our mission possible. If you’d like to make a 2024 donation, you can do so here.

Thank you for believing that everyone deserves a decent place to live and helping make it happen.

Your Habitat EJC Store Annex

New Hours & Shopping Experience

We’re thrilled to share some exciting news that will make your shopping experience at Habitat EJC even better! Starting at the beginning of January, we adjusted the Store Annex hours to better accommodate the needs of our shoppers.

The new Store Annex Hours are every Friday from 11 am to 4 pm.

This means that every Friday, you can explore and shop our ever-changing but always fantastic selection of furniture, appliances, and larger items conveniently. To ensure you receive the attention and help you deserve, we have a dedicated staff member, joined by a rotating cast of volunteers, available specifically to aid you with your purchases in the Annex during that time.

Whether you’re looking for that perfect couch to complete your living room or a statement piece to elevate your space, the Store has something for everyone. Thank you for supporting Habitat EJC as we continue to expand and enhance our offerings to serve you better. We can’t wait to see you at our Store Annex! Habitat EJC’s Store Annex is located at 2009 4th Street, behind the Port Townsend Habitat Store.

Habitat Homeowners

2023 Look-back: Homeowners make history

In 2023, we saw the largest number of Habitat move-ins throughout EJC history! We had 11 partner families move into their homes, with 13 children between them. Some of these families had members employed by the Food Co-op, Rose Theater, and Olycap. The new homeowners are teacher’s assistants, hospitality workers, local nonprofit workers, and more, all serving our local community.

Homebuyer Education Teacher Appreciation

Did you know that partners in our home-ownership program must complete a series of classes before the move-in day arrives? These Homebuyer Education classes are designed to give our partners the information they will need as future homeowners.

Habitat delivers free classes on home and yard maintenance, insurance, conflict resolution, and emergency preparedness, amongst other topics. One class, our annual Wills and Inheritance Workshop, is open to everyone living in a Habitat EJC home, as well as to our repair partners past and present, not just those in our current cohort. Nearly all those who teach our Homebuyer Education do so as volunteers. Thank you to everyone who has taught a Homebuyer Education class on behalf of Habitat EJC.

In the last year, instructors have included:

Michele Adkisson, Zhaleh Almaee, Mark Bauserman, Deb Baker, Joseph Bell, Elizabeth Bindschadler, Bob Collins, Sophie DeGroot, David Faber, Bridget Gregg, Emily Holmes. Amy Howard, Jamie Maciejewski, Jordan Pollack, Leanne Smith, Dominic Svornich, Chelsey Taylor and Steven Williams
