FY2023 – 24 Impact Report

Peak Stability
Summiting the Mount Everest of Affordable Housing

Mount Everest. One recent homeowner evoked that image to describe her family’s journey from instability to stable housing. “I felt like I’d been dropped off at base camp and told to get myself to the top of Mount Everest. No climbing ropes. No winter gear. No training. Not even a map.” She had no idea how to scale that mountain. But then Habitat stepped in as guide, instructor and map supplier. Miranda had never worked so hard, but she was no longer alone.

I’m thinking about Miranda’s analogy again. In 2023 we shepherded 11 families up the mountain to housing stability. The most ever. It took a ton of planning, loads of provisions, along with skills and experience sourced from both inside and outside our organization.

All this is getting Habitat ready for our own Mount Everest-sized climb. In the fall, we completed the six-home Landes North neighborhood; it took almost exactly a year, a record for us. We are actively planning three more neighborhoods: Landes South (14 homes), Cliff Street Cottages (six homes), and the Mason Street neighborhood in Port Hadlock (150 homes). (You can read more here.)

Each initiative builds on the previous one. Our team gets stronger. Our processes improve. Our timelines become tighter. Each milestone gets us in better shape to tackle the mountain.

Mason Street is our Mount Everest. We have partners and guides as we move ahead. Our supporters – YOU – inspire us daily. And we are urged forward by those who call this community home – who work in our businesses and schools, care for our senior citizens and children – but who can’t afford the housing. We need all of them. We need you.

Thanks for scaling the mountain with us.
