Women Build

Nationally, more than 60% of Habitat partner households are women-led. Over half of Habitat’s volunteer labor is provided by women. Each year, we honor this central role that women play to empower one another, make an impact, and change lives.

Women Build is a great way to get together, learn, have fun, and contribute to affordable housing. No experience is necessary.
Habitat provides all the safety equipment, tools, and training. Lunch and snacks are provided, too! In 2023, 49 women participated in Women Builds, contributing a total of 298 hours to building houses with Habitat.
Q. What does working on a house entail?

A. Depending on what projects Habitat has happening, you might help with a number of different things from preparing a foundation, raising walls, applying siding, sheeting, roofing, installing windows, and much more. Habitat also provides lunch for all volunteers at Women Build.

Q. Do I need prior experience?

A. No experience necessary. We will teach you everything. Additionally, we will provide all of the safety equipment and tools.

Q. I’m kind of hesitant . . . is it a welcoming environment?

A. Yes, very welcoming. Our site supervisors, in addition to being very experienced, are also kind and helpful. When you join us for this build, you will meet other people who are interested in learning new skills and contributing volunteer hours to a cause they believe in – just like you. There is very much a spirit of helping and inclusion on these build sites. And you are always welcome to sign up with friends, too.

“Taking part in the Women Build was such a confidence booster. I learned how to use power tools like saws and a nail gun, measure and cut accurately, and hang siding.
I felt exhilarated at the end of the day when I saw what I had accomplished.”
