APPLICATION GUIDELINES

Habitat families are selected based on four criteria:

Need for Adequate Shelter:

Your present housing is unsafe or unsuitable because of problems with utilities such as electricity, plumbing, heating, handicap accessibility, structural safety, etc.
Crowding – there are too many people for the number of bedrooms
Your are currently living in temporary housing or sharing with another family

Ability to Pay: Your income must be reflected on the chart below:

HUD 5/10, 30-60% AMI Jefferson County

Willingness to Partner – All families selected for the program invest 400-500 hours of “sweat equity” and make a down payment of $1500.00. They also attend homeownership classes to help pepare you for the responsibilities of homeownership, including home maintenance, yard care, legal issues and personal budget planning.

Residence – You must have lived in East Jefferson County for at least one year.
